Kathryn Dolby – The Fountain

“The Fountain as a title and as a metaphor interests me for its multiple meanings,” says Kathryn Dolby, who returns to the Michael Reid network in June 2025, more than two years after her widely celebrated solo exhibition at our Southern Highlands sister gallery.

“Fountains throughout history have symbolised rebirth, healing, holy water, the uncontrollable forces of nature, and the human experience. It is a flow of water that is in constant transition between here and there, like ourselves, moving through life, shifting and changing with the seasons.”

“A source and mainspring from which something flows, a motive, an intention from which everything moves. Here, in these paintings, I probe into the unknown and find the heart; my children, the land, containment and freedom, and lay it all down in an elemental dance with colour.”
