Light of Nature

Light of Nature explores the sensory experience of light, place, and belonging in painting. The series started in Mantova, Italy, where Helle was artist-in-residence in 2025. There, she dyed/painted sheer silk works while immersing into the countryside. An awe-inspiring process that continued as Helle travelled via Denmark to Australia, before painting this luminous new series in the studio.
Embodied memories of each place are reflected through translucent layers of paint. Rather than a depiction, the work unfolds recent and distant sensations through gestural movement. Earthy tones merge with Nordic hues and a sense of fluidity. Always following the horizon—and beyond—an ever-present line connects each work, and the notion of living in, and between, light and place.
