John Hockings has always painted in response to the world and life around him. Places, landscapes, people and events push him to respond in paint to what he experiences, both visually and emotionally.
The process of painting for John is an attempt to rework those experiences and memories onto the canvas, looking for something new and beyond the initial or persistent impression. He has painted all his life, taught for various short periods by Andrew Sibley, Mervyn Moriarty and Nevil Matthews.
