Fiona Andrews-Kostidis

2019 Hawkesbury Art Prize finalist, Fiona Kostidis, is an emerging artist who began painting when she moved from a busy city life to the quietness of central Victoria. She is a painter who deeply enjoys painting in solitude, and other times with friends, enjoying the natural connections that develop through shared experiences of being immersed in nature.

This new body of work was created in the peak of summer during my recent travels through the outback: from the Flinders Ranges, Central Australia and Kakadu. I am drawn to the unique shapes and forms of the ancient Australian desert and I hope these pieces convey the humble beauty of the place: the isolation, the remoteness, the light, the heat, the textures and the timelessness of the landscape.
